California Congressman makes good on bet; sings 'Meet the Mets' on House floor
Sure, ex-Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly may be out of a job following the team's NLDS loss to the New York Mets. But Rep. Adam Schiff of California suffered the ultimate indignity when he had to sing the Mets' fight song on the House floor.
Schiff, a ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee who represents a district in Los Angeles County, bet New York representative Steve Israel on the best-of-five series.
The loser would have to wear the tie of the winner’s team and deliver a one minute speech on the House floor "extolling the virtues" of the winning team.
Schiff's decision to sing "Meet the Mets" — as opposed to, say, speechifying the glory that is Daniel Murphy — turned one of those goofy political wagers into a truly wonderful, monotone, downtrodden spectacle.
