Brewers release left-handed reliever Morales

The Brewers on Monday released left-handed relief pitcher Franklin Morales while informing veteran left-hander Chris Capuano that he will make the roster.

The 37-year-old Capuano has pitched in the major leagues for 11 seasons, including five with the Brewers. He was 0-4 with a 7.97 ERA in 40.2 innings and 22 appearances for the New York Yankees last season.

Capuano has allowed two runs, three walks and nine hits in 10 2/3 innings this spring, good for a 1.69 ERA.

The 30-year-old Morales has pitched nine seasons in the major leagues for Colorado, Boston and Kansas City. He went 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 67 relief appearances last regular season for the Royals.

Morales is 23-29 with a 4.52 ERA in 486 career innings. He had not allowed a run in four innings this spring.
