What's next for veteran CB Champ Bailey?
Champ Bailey is set to test free agency after the Broncos released the 16-year veteran on Wednesday night.
By cutting the cornerstone of their once-pronounced defense, Denver cleared $10 million in cap space. It’s not something that Bailey is exceedingly enthusiastic about.
"It sucks, but at the same time, I have to move on," Bailey told USA Today of being cut. "I can't dwell on it. I know they're not dwelling on it."
Bailey, who wasn’t offered an opportunity to take less money, doesn’t have any plans of retiring. He does, however, have an interesting pitch to teams in the market for a veteran cornerback.
"I just want to see what people will want me to do. My vision is to still play corner, but I'm a little more open-minded about the season I had last year." Bailey said. "I'm a corner at heart. If a situation made sense to play safety, then I would consider it."
While the cornerback position is one of the deepest in free agency, Bailey has value because of his experience, leadership in the locker room and tackling technique. Injuries plagued Bailey’s year in 2013, but if he is healthy a team could add some solid depth in their secondary.
