Va. police find marijuana in Collins' car

Published Feb. 27, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Virginia State Police say Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Nate Collins has been charged with possession of marijuana.

State police say the 24-year-old Collins was charged last Thursday during a traffic stop in Fauquier (faw-KEER') County in northern Virginia's horse country.

A state police spokeswoman said Monday that Collins was on Route 29 when his vehicle was stopped for an illegal window tint. A trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from Collins' vehicle and the spokesman said Collins agreed to allow the trooper to search his 2011 Dodge.

State police said a small amount of marijuana was found. Collins also was charged with a window tint violation.

"We are aware of the incident involving Nate Collins and continue to gather information," the Jaguars said in a statement Monday. "We will have no further comment at this time."

Collins was ordered to appear in court on April 19, Jacksonville (Fla.) TV station WJXT reported.

Collins listed his address as Charlottesville, where he played for the University of Virginia. A listing under his name could not be found.
