Trevor Siemian named Broncos starting QB for all-important 3rd preseason game

The Denver Broncos are one step closer to sorting out their starting quarterback situation. On Monday, head coach Gary Kubiak announced that Trevor Siemian will start the team’s third preseason game Saturday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

This may not seem like big news, but the third preseason game is always the most telling about a team’s starting lineup. First-stringers typically play the entire first half in what’s considered the regular-season dress rehearsal, which means Siemian will get the longest look with the first-team offense.

Kubiak said in his news conference that Siemian “did a good job” and he’s “going to give him a chance to do that again” on Saturday night. This doesn’t necessarily mean Siemian will be the starter in Week 1, but it appears he’s surpassed Mark Sanchez in that regard.

If he has another solid outing against the Rams, Kubiak could very well name him the regular-season starter. That decision, at the very least, will come next week.

"It's down to the nitty gritty,” Kubiak said. “I'm going to make a decision next week."

Paxton Lynch might still have an outside chance, but this battle will probably come down to Sanchez and Siemian, the latter of whom has the edge.
