Tomsula: Lineup changes could be coming to 'fix' reeling 49ers

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick's job appears to be safe for now. The same may not hold true for the rest of the San Francisco 49ers.

First-year coach Jim Tomsula told reporters Monday that he and his staff are evaluating the team from "top to bottom" as they search for answers to halt a three-game skid in which the 49ers have been outscored by a staggering 107-28.

“Offensively, everybody is busting their tails," Tomsula said per the San Jose Mercury News. "But we have to fix some things. That’s where we’re at.”

San Francisco's point production has dipped in each of its four games and its league-low 48 points are the worst of any four-game stretch for the franchise since the 1978 season.

Tomsula suggested their may be changes coming in the offensive line after Kaepernick was sacked six times Sunday, but he is not mulling a switch at quarterback despite seeing the 49ers score one touchdown in the past eight quarters.

“I don’t want to say it, then it starts a whole ... that’s not where I’m at,” said Tomsula. "We’re 1-3, so the evaluation is on me, and the job I’ve done to this point is not where it needs to be.”
