Toler, Ballard stay home as Colts travel to Buffalo

Published Sep. 12, 2015 3:36 p.m. ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Starting cornerback Greg Toler and backup running back Vick Ballard did not travel with the Colts to Buffalo for Sunday's game.

Team spokesman Avis Roper made the announcement Saturday.

Coach Chuck Pagano had already said Toler and Ballard would not play. Toler injured his neck during a preseason game. Ballard injured his right hamstring in Indianapolis' preseason finale.

Darius Butler is expected to replace Toler in the starting lineup.

Indy did provide any other injury updates, including the status of outside linebacker Robert Mathis. The 2013 NFL sacks champion is trying to come back from a torn left Achilles tendon and hasn't played in a regular-season game in nearly 22 months.
