Titans WR Britt may need another surgery

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak said Kenny Britt may require further surgery to fully recover from the knee injury that wiped out most of his 2011 season, TitanInsider.com reported.

Britt, the Titans' leading receiver in 2009 and 2010, went under the knife last October to repair the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee that he tore in the third game of the season.

Munchak said Sunday that while nothing was scheduled so far, Britt could need a second procedure before he can return to the field.

But he indicated it would be far more routine than the reconstructive surgery performed on the 23-year-old last year.

Munchak likened Britt's potential treatment to the one faced by defensive end Derrick Morgan, who had follow-up arthroscopic surgery during 2011's training camp after returning from a torn ACL that saw him miss most of the 2010 campaign.

"I think it always is [possible]," Munchak said of surgery for Britt. "I don't know if he will at some point, but I think that's something that's common with that injury. Derrick went through it last year."

He added, "The good thing is that even if you do have it, it's not a huge setback. It's not something that sets you way back. But that is obviously part of the process, or could be, if that arises down the road."

Munchak said the Titans were prepared for Britt to encounter discomfort in his injured knee at some point as he gears himself up for the new season.

"Sometimes it happens much sooner than Derrick's did, and sometimes it happens like Derrick's did, once you get more active," he said. "We'll see. [Britt's] been doing well, running hard, and we'll just have to see how the knee responds."

Morgan sat out the first game of last season but played in all of the remaining 15 regular-season games as the Titans went 9-7 to narrowly finish second behind the Houston Texans in the AFC South.
