Titans place LB Ruud on IR, sign Malast

The Tennessee Titans have signed linebacker Kevin Malast off the Jaguars' practice squad and placed veteran linebacker Barrett Ruud on injured reserve.

The Titans signed Ruud to a one-year deal in the preseason. He had been inactive four of the past five games due to a groin injury, prompting Tuesday's roster move with rookie Colin McCarthy playing well at middle linebacker.

The Titans also have other injuries at linebacker with Akeem Ayers hurting a shoulder and Gerald McRath hurting his left knee and ankle in last week's 22-17 loss to New Orleans.

Malast was with the Titans in training camp and waived before the season started. Undrafted out of Rutgers, he spent time in 2009 on Chicago's practice squad and was in camp with the Bears in 2010.
