Three reasons why the Chiefs are suddenly playoff contenders again

Kansas City is inching closer to what would be a mind-blowing turnaround.

The Chiefs lost five consecutive games from Weeks 2-7. They're still only two games removed from a Wild Card spot. Let that sink in.

Attribute their luck to three huge factors. Firstly, it's a down season for the AFC's non-elites. After New England and (perhaps) Cincinnati, there aren't any dominant teams in their bracket.

Secondly, the team lucked out with its schedule. They've already defeated one current Wild Card team in Pittsburgh and they'll play Buffalo in two weeks -- both home games. According to Football Outsiders, they own the 19th-toughest schedule left in football, too.

Thirdly, it just so happens this is Andy Reid's finest coaching season in some time. He patched up the loss of Jamaal Charles. He patched up his offensive line.

And, believe it or not, Reid patched up a sinking team and turned them into a playoff contender.
