Texans' wideout goes from delivering bread to making NFL roster

Wendall Williams has taken the long road to the Houston Texans and a spot on their NFL roster.

The 26-year-old wideout was added to Houston's active roster this week when the Texans placed Braxton Miller on injured reserve.

That doesn't speak to the journey Williams took to get to the NFL.

At one point, Williams was driving a truck delivering bread in Central New York.

Per the Houston Chronicle:

He bounced around to various junior colleges before finding stardom at the NAIA level on the football field and track at the University of the Cumberlands.

"To be honest, I'm 26 and this is the biggest dream I've ever had in my life," Williams said. "For me to be in a setting like this, makes me want to stay here. I love being around the guys. I love the locker room. I love the work ethic of this team and I want to stay."

Williams not only spent time with the Texans but also tried out for the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears before returning to Houston's practice squad.

Williams, who is 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, brings plenty of speed to the Texans. He was clocked in a 4.19 40 before it was officially adjusted to 4.32.

"I just stay humble," Williams said. "I come to work every day ready to work hard, ready to show people that I do deserve a chance and I want to stay here. I want to earn my keep. To be honest, I think everyone has their own niche. I just have to find mine. We will figure that out when the time comes."
