Suspended Lions president returns to practice

Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand is being allowed to work half-days before the end of his 30-day suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Lewand was at practice on Wednesday. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Commissioner Roger Goodell is allowing Lewand a ''gradual transition to full activity'' and he can attend Sunday's home opener against the Eagles. Aiello said in the past, players have been allowed to attend meetings and practice even if they weren't allowed to play.

Lewand was fined $100,000 and suspended following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. The suspension was to run Aug. 25 to Sept. 24.
