Sproles out for Saints with broken hand

Published Nov. 5, 2012 8:43 p.m. ET

Darren Sproles was inactive for the New Orleans Saints against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night after undergoing surgery for a broken hand.

Sproles, a running back and return specialist, was injured in last week's loss at Denver. The team says he will be reevaluated this week.

Linebacker David Hawthorne, who has started three games for the Saints, was inactive. New Orleans decided to sit Hawthorne after giving up more than 400 yards in their first seven games.

Also inactive for the Saints: receiver Courtney Roby, tackle Tyrunn Walker, offensive tackle Bryce Harris, cornerback Elbert Mack and defensive end Turk McBride.
