The Massachusetts State Police determined Brandon Spikes’ 2011 Maybach sedan struck a 2009 Nissan Murano on Sunday morning on Route 495 in Foxboro after a “comprehensive investigation.”

State police have issued Spikes a citation, charging the former New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills linebacker with four motor vehicle offense: leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, operating a motor vehicle negligently to endanger, speeding and failure to stay within marked lanes.

Spikes’ car was found abandoned in the median of the highway early Sunday morning with front-end damage. The driver of Spikes’ car answered a call from the Mercedes onboard assistance service, saying he had hit a deer. State police found no evidence of the Maybach hitting a deer.

Spikes will be summonsed to appear at Wrentham District Court on a date to be determined.

Spikes currently is a free agent after being released by the Patriots earlier in the week.
