Shanahan will keep Redskins home for training camp

Published Mar. 24, 2010 12:47 p.m. ET

Mike Shanahan is keeping the Washington Redskins at home for training camp.

The team announced Wednesday that camp will be held at Redskins Park training facility for the eighth consecutive year.

Shanahan said he liked the idea of going away for training camp when he was hired as Redskins coach in January. He's since changed his mind, citing the ample meeting space, practice fields and huge fan support.

The large crowds have caused some logistical issues in recent years, but players mostly prefer staying at home. The Redskins last went away for camp in 2003, when they were in Carlisle, Pa.

Camp is expected to begin in late July.
