Seahawks rookie Lockett flashes more than speed to burn 49ers

Rookie Tyler Lockett has wasted no time immersing himself into the rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

The Seahawks completed a season sweep of San Francisco with a 29-13 win on Sunday and Lockett has played a decisive role in each of the victories.

The electrifying third-round draft pick out of Kansas State has made a name for himself primarily on kick and punt returns, but he's had his two best games as a wide receiver against the 49ers.

Lockett had four receptions for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's victory, and hauled in five catches for 79 yards and a score in Seattle's 20-3 victory at San Francisco last month. All three of his receiving TDs have come against the 49ers.

“He’s doing great. He’s right in it, he’s just one of our guys now," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "In the second half of the season, he’s just a regular starter, contributor for us.  We count on him making big plays and running down the field, but he’s also a really good route runner, too."

There were questions about Lockett's size entering the NFL Draft, but the 5-foot-8, 182-pounder showed surprising strength on his second touchdown reception Sunday. Lockett spun out of one tackle and bulled his way through three defenders at the goal line to give Seattle a 20-0 edge.

'It's just about making the best out of your opportunities," Lockett said. "Each and every day, we don't know how many plays we're going to get, how many targets we're going to get. ... It's just being able to go out there and just be ready so when they call your name, and they call the play, it's just being able to go out there and make that play."
