49ers report card

Passing offense: That's a 'B' -- as in boo. Alex Smith shrugged off a slow start and flack from the crowd to throw for two TDs while avoiding crushing turnovers. Grade: B

Running offense: Frank Gore got that elusive big run -- a 64-yarder -- as the 49ers improved to 13-0 whenever he gets at least 24 attempts. Grade: B+

Passing defense: Jason Campbell's 10.7 rating was the lowest by a 49ers opponent since Archie Manning managed only an 8.7 against them in 1972. Grade: A

Running defense: Held Michael Bush to a 2.4-yard average and a long of 5 but got burned on a 43-yard reverse by receiver Louis Murphy. Grade: B

Special teams: Ted Ginn Jr. has perked up a sagging return game; the 49ers aborted a FG attempt after noting there were only nine players on the field. Grade: C

Coaching: A season-high 11 penalties for 143 yards suggests a lack of discipline, but patient game plan paid off in the fourth quarter. Grade: B-
