Rivera: RB Artis-Payne to start vs. Vikings; Stewart out
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Panthers coach Ron Rivera says running back Cameron Artis-Payne will start Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
However, Rivera says he expects Artis-Payne to split carries almost equally with Fozzy Whittaker, who had 100 yards rushing on 16 carries last week in a 47-26 win against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Panthers will be without running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) for at least a few weeks.
Artis-Payne played in the final three games last season with Stewart out and ran for 152 yards on 33 carries and a touchdown.
Rookie linebacker Jeremy Cash (hamstring) is listed as doubtful. Rivera listed defensive tackle Kawann Short (shoulder) and guard Trai Turner (ankle) as questionable, but says both will play.
