Reports: Police want to talk with potential top-10 pick Collins in murder investigation

Former LSU offensive tackle La'el Collins is wanted for questioning regarding the shooting death of a pregnant woman, the Baton Rouge police department told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Collins, 21, is not a suspect, according to the report, and is only being sought to provide information.

Brittany Mills, 29, is believed to be a former girlfriend of Collins.

"We took the investigation seriously," Collins' attorney, Jim Boren, said, via Schefter. "We've tried to rule him out as a suspect. We're going to provide that information to the police, and ultimately (Collins) will sit down and talk to them. But the timing is poor."

Collins, a projected first-round pick, could see his draft stock take a hit during the ongoing investigation.

Several teams interested in Collins want to know whether he is the father of the infant who was delivered after Mills' death, Schefter reports. The baby is still receiving medical treatment.

Police told the Baton Rouge Advocate that a preliminary investigation suggests Mills opened her car door to someone who wanted to use the vehicle and was shot multiple times after she refused.

Mills was found dead when police arrived last Friday night and rushed to a local hospital, where her unborn child was removed in unstable condition, the Advocate reports.

Collins, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman, was named second team All-American last season.
