Report: The Panthers beat out five teams to finalize trade to land Funchess
If not for the late push by Dave Gettleman and the front office of the Carolina Panthers, Devin Funchess may not be heading to Charlotte.
According to Darin Gantt from Pro Football Talk, the Rams had a total of six offers for the No. 41 pick in the second round. Michael Silver of the NFL Network also explained that St. Louis was actually set to take an offensive lineman before the phone calls starting flying in.
The Panthers apparently weren't the first team to call, as Gantt points out that "The Chiefs were the first of six teams to call in a five-minute span, as the Rams tried to cut the best deal possible."
The best deal possible? Well, that one goes to Carolina, so if things pan out with Funchess in Carolina, it may be time to throw a quick tip of the hat to Gettleman for his ability to put together a deal quickly.
