Report: Dolphins to release Henne
The Miami Dolphins will part ways with former second-round pick Chad Henne when the quarterback becomes an unrestricted free agent next month, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday, citing sources.
Henne started the first four games last season before separating his shoulder and undergoing season-ending surgery.
In his absence, Matt Moore led the Dolphins to a 6-6 record, with an 87.1 quarterback rating.
Team management has made it clear it needs to upgrade its level of play at the position, and re-signing Henne reportedly does not fit in with those plans.
"Chad has done what we've asked him to do. I like Chad personally very well. He's very smart. Very intelligent. Very tough. A football guy. He loves being around the game and is a very good teammate,"general manager Jeff Ireland said at the Senior Bowl last month.
"But this football team didn't win enough games when he was quarterback here. But that doesn't mean he did everything wrong, or right.
"If he goes somewhere else, Chad's a good football player. He can play in this league."
Henne, 26, produced a 13-18 record as a starter for Miami, with a quarterback rating of 75.7 in his four seasons.
