Report: Chicago Bears in no rush to rework TE Martellus Bennett's contract
Tight end Martellus Bennett is holding out for a new contract, but so far the Chicago Bears aren’t buckling. Even though Bennett was a major contributor on offense last year, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole says Chicago is comfortable continuing on without Bennett for the time being.
Bennett caught 90 passes for 916 yards and six touchdowns in 2014—career-high figures in all three categories. The 6-foot-6 tight end is under contract for the next two seasons, due to make $4.9 million in 2015 and $5.085 million in 2016. Bennett will be 30 when his current deal expires, so he’s looking to cash in on his talents sooner rather than later.
