Report: Browns offered first-rounder for Bradford, but to which team?

At last week's news conference introducing his new quarterback and explaining his breakneck offseason moves, Eagles coach Chip Kelly drew some skepticism when he told reporters he was offered a first-round pick for Sam Bradford, that new quarterback.

Well, on Tuesday, former Redskins and Texans general manager and current NFL Network commentator Charley Casserly said on "NFL AM" that the Cleveland Browns offered a first-round pick for Bradford.

Kelly acquired Bradford and a fifth-round pick from the St. Louis Rams last week in exchange for Eagles starting quarterback Nick Foles, a fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round pick. The move was widely questioned because Bradford, 27, is a year older than Foles, due to make nearly $11 million more than Foles, and suffered two torn ACLs since the last time he played in an NFL game.

But even with Casserly's report there remains confusion.

First, Casserly acknowledged his source did not make it clear whether the Browns offered the pick to the Rams before the trade with the Eagles, or to Philadelphia after the trade with St. Louis was completed. What's more, Rams coach Jeff Fisher last week told Pro Football Talk that he was offered a low first-round pick for Bradford, but Fisher wanted Foles, instead.

And the Browns actually have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, Nos. 12 and 19 (the 19th pick was obtained from Buffalo during last year's draft as part of the trade that allowed the Bills to move up and select receiver Sammy Watkins with the No. 4 overall pick).

But ESPN's Adam Caplan tweeted he knows which pick was offered, at least.

The Browns were 7-9 last season, starting Brian Hoyer at quarterback for 13 games and a pair of rookies the other three: Johnny Manziel (two starts) and Connor Shaw (one start). Hoyer last week signed with the Houston Texans as a free agent, and Manziel in February entered a rehab program, leaving his future somewhat uncertain. The Browns still have Shaw on the roster and signed Josh McCown earlier in the offseason.
