Report: Britt pleads guilty to charges

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt has pleaded guilty in New Jersey to careless driving, The Tennessean reported Wednesday.

According to the report, the 22-year-old was ordered Tuesday to pay a $478 fine and will be assessed four points on his driver's license.

The former Rutgers University star was arrested April 12 in Bayonne, N.J., about 10 miles from New York City, after police spotted him traveling 71 mph in a 50 mph zone.

Police said Britt tried to elude them by weaving in and out of lanes before eventually pulling over. Britt and a passenger in the blue Porsche, 23-year-old Jerel Lord, then got out of the car and initially claimed to police that they had not been in the vehicle.

Lord fled as officers ran a computer check, according to police, and was caught and arrested after admitting to tossing a marijuana cigarette out of his pocket.

Britt was initially charged with felony counts of eluding police, hindering apprehension, and obstructing a governmental function. Prosecutors dropped the felony charges last week, leaving in place only misdemeanor traffic violations which were settled with Britt's guilty plea Tuesday.

Britt was also arrested in January 2010 for not paying $865 in outstanding traffic warrants. He was accused of punching a man in a Nashville bar fight in October of last year, but was not charged by police.

Britt had 42 catches for 775 yards and nine touchdowns last season for Tennessee in 12 games.
