Embattled NFL commissioner Roger Goodell got a public vote of confidence from one of the league's owners.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder issued a statement Saturday morning in which he says the team "strongly endorses" Goodell's efforts in the Ray Rice domestic violence incident.

"Roger Goodell has always had the best interests of football at heart, both on and off the field," Snyder said. "We are fortunate to have him as our Commissioner.  The entire Washington Redskins organization strongly endorses his efforts to eradicate domestic abuse and the independent investigation into the Ray Rice assault."

The NFL announced that former FBI director Robert S. Mueller is heading an independent investigation in the handling of the evidence in the Rice incident. No definite timetable has been given regarding when the investigation will conclude.

On numerous occasions, Goodell has backed Snyder's stance of not changing the Redskins team despite growing public sentiment to the contrary.
