Redskins CB Hall backpedals on defense comments

Published Sep. 22, 2010 2:05 a.m. ET

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he has met with the coaching staff to explain his comments about the team's defense.

Hall was so upset on Monday by the Redskins' 30-27 loss to Houston that he declared that he would cover the opposing team's top receiver every week from now on - no matter what the coaches say.

Hall backpedalled from that stance when he appeared on ESPN980 on Tuesday. He said he will cover the top receiver as long as it doesn't ''throw something out of whack'' with the defense that's been called.

Hall said the coaches aren't upset with him. He said defensive coordinator Jim Haslett understood that Hall didn't mean exactly what was said. Hall says head coach Mike Shanahan told him: ''I love your passion.''
