Really? Alex Smith rated ahead of Joe Flacco?
When you stack up Joe Flacco's resume against that of Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, it's hard to imagine giving the advantage to Smith.
Yet that is what exactly happened when NFL Network's Elliot Harrison laid out his top 10 NFL quarterbacks heading into 2015. Smith landed in the 10 spot, while Flacco, Cam Newton, and Matt Ryan were nowhere to be found. OK, someone has some explaining to do.
"I like Alex Smith going into this year because they shored up the offensive line," Harrison said. "They want and got Ben Grubbs, they drafted Mitch Morse, and then also added Jeremy Maclin."
To be fair, Harrison points out that these rankings are how he feels about the quarterback position heading into the 2015 season rather than on years past. Yet he also adds that Justin Houston and the Chiefs defense will help keep opposing offenses from lighting up the scoreboard, and in turn, give Smith and the offense a better chance at success.
Even with those arguments, we're not sure how anyone picks Smith over Flacco. If you were building a team for 2015, would you pick Flacco or Smith to be your quarterback?
In case you were wondering, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger were the top three quarterbacks on the list.
