QB Bortles says he's made strides since last meeting with Texans

In his last matchup with the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles struggled, completing just 14 passes.

This week, as the Bortles and the Jaguars prepare to face J.J. Watt and company once again, the second-year quarterback says he's much improved over a season ago.

Bortles completed 14 of 33 passes for 117 yards and a passer rating of 52.2 in Jacksonville's Dec. 28 loss to the Texans. He was also sacked five times.

Although the Jaguars are off to a 1-4 start this season, Bortles' play has shown significant growth. After thrown 11 touchdowns and 17 interceptions all of last year, the 23-year old already has 10 touchdowns, including four thrown in last week's loss against Tampa Bay.

“It’s kind of been night and day,” Bortles said, per the Houston Chronicle. “I’m definitely in a better spot than last year, and that’s to be expected, right? You’re supposed to improve and get better. And I definitely feel better prepared going out on the field this year.”

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 draft, Bortles sprained his throwing shoulder in the loss to the Buccaneers but hopes to play Sunday against the Texans.
