Patriots roster cuts: Here are the three releases from yesterday

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Yesterday, the New England Patriots roster underwent some personnel maneuvering to meet the league-required allotment of 75 players.

Here are the three players who are no longer on the Patriots roster:

Ramon Humber: Before he travelled up north this offseason, Humber was the longest-tenured defensive player on the New Orleans Saints. But now, the veteran special teamer and backup linebacker finds himself out of a job. Humber saw his time in New England come to a close as a result of the impressive play of draft picks Kamu Grugier-Hill and Elandon Roberts. There just wasn’t room on the team for Humber, and he’s too old to keep on the practice squad.

Keavon Milton: Despite the likely loss of Sebastian Vollmer for the season, Milton wasn’t able to sneak onto the final Patriots roster. It looks like the Patriots are going to take Nate Solder, Marcus Cannon, LaAdrian Waddle and Cameron Fleming into Week 1, which leaves the third-year veteran without work. Milton has already earned the label of journeyman, as the Patriots were his fourth team in as many years.

Steven Scheu: The Vanderbilt product never stood much of a chance this preseason, as he was the lesser-qualified out of the two undrafted rookie tight ends the Pats brought along to training camp. Bryce Williams is still on the 75-man roster, and although he certainly won’t make the final Patriots roster, Williams holds more practice squad potential than Scheu.

Alright, so Humber and Milton and Scheu got cut. Who’s next?

Good question. By 4 PM ET on Saturday, the Patriots must bring their roster down to 53 players. Stay tuned here on Musket Fire as we bring you fresh points of analysis surrounding the ongoing formation of the Patriots roster.
