Panthers rookie G Kugbila injures hamstring

Published Jul. 27, 2013 6:47 p.m. ET

Panthers rookie guard Edmund Kugbila was carted to the locker room after injuring his right hamstring early in Saturday's training camp practice.

Coach Ron Rivera says the extent of the injury is unclear.

Kugbila, the team's fourth-round pick out of Valdosta State, missed most of the team's OTAs in June with a knee issue and Rivera says it's unclear if the injuries are related.

Rivera says Kugbila ''tweaked his hamstring and we'll treat him day-by-day. He did it during (individual) drills. It looked like he got a little overextended.''

Kugbila had been splitting time with veteran Geoff Hangartner working with the first team at right guard.

Running back Jonathan Stewart (knee) and linebacker Jon Beason (knee) remain out of practice while recovering from offseason surgeries.
