Panthers DT Edwards won't play against Giants

Published Sep. 22, 2013 12:57 p.m. ET

The Carolina Panthers will be without three defensive starters against the New York Giants after defensive tackle Dwan Edwards was declared inactive with a thigh injury.

The Panthers are also without starting cornerback Josh Thomas (concussion) and starting free safety Charles Godfrey, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week with a torn Achilles.

Colin Cole will start for Edwards on Sunday.

Carolina's other inactives include defensive end Frank Alexander, safety Quintin Mikell, and cornerbacks James Dockery and D.J. Moore.

For the Giants, cornerback Corey Webster (hip) is inactive and Aaron Ross will start.

Also inactive are tackle David Diehl, tight end Adrien Robinson, guard Brandon Mosely, running back Michael Cox, quarterback Ryan Nassib and defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

The Giants say Jason Pierre-Paul will start against the Panthers.
