Packers at Jaguars: Week 1 inactives

Here are the inactive players for the Week 1 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Get out your calculators and make sure you can count on both your fingers and toes. A spare abacus wouldn’t hurt as well.

It may surprise many people to know that the Jacksonville Jaguars (376) actually scored more points than the Green Bay Packers (368) in 2015. It may also be somewhat of a shock when you consider that quarterback Blake Bortles (35) actually three more touchdown passes a year ago than two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers (31).

Of course, that’s all well and good but we know these are two teams have been headed in opposite directions for quite a spell. Mike McCarthy’s club is a perennial postseason participant while the Jaguars haven’t been to the playoffs since 2007.

But things are looking up in the state of Florida. The team was again active in free agency and is hoping the addition of running back Chris Ivory compliments pass-catchers Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Julius Thomas. There are newcomers on the defense in the form of defensive end Malik Jackson and first-round cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Green Bay defense looks to be better as well, especially against the run. Dom Capers’ unit generated 43 sacks but the club managed only 22 takeaways. Outside linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers hope to make it a very rough afternoon for Bortles. The offense gets wide receiver Jordy Nelson back after a lost 2015 and running back Eddie Lacy should bounce back after a shaky year.

This is a real test for the young Jaguars, facing a team used to reaching the playoffs on a regular basis. It’s also a Green Bay team in a lot better shape than it was at this time a year ago. The expectations are very high in Jacksonville for the first time in recent memory and a victory here would make somewhat of a statement, but Gus Bradley’s squad certainly has its work cut out for itself.
