O'Hara making progress with ankle
Pro Bowl center Shaun O'Hara is finally seeing some progress with his injured left ankle.
After receiving a cortisone shot on Thursday, O'Hara is walking with less discomfort.
Doctors are now treating the 33-year-old for bursitis in the ankle instead of tendinitis in his Achilles' tendon.
''We started a different treatment and that seems to be helping it,'' O'Hara said Monday. ''It has really responded positively and we all are excited about the way it has responded.''
O'Hara had received platelet-rich plasma therapy injection but his ankle did not respond. Once doctors started treating his bursa, a sac that provided a cushion between the bones and tendons, there was improvement.
O'Hara, who missed the past two games, hopes to return to practice on Wednesday when the Giants start preparations for Sunday's game at Houston.
Coach Tom Coughlin said halfback Ahmad Bradshaw, who rushed for 129 yards against the Bears in a 17-3 win, has a sore ankle. He did not say which one. Doctors will examine it more thoroughly on Tuesday.
Coughlin was not sure how long fullback Madison Hedgecock would be sidelined with strained hamstring. Backup tight end Bear Pascoe replaced him in the game.
Defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka had his bulging cervical disk examined by the Giants doctors on Monday. He plans to get a second opinion on Tuesday.
Kiwanuka, who did not play on Sunday night, is trying to remain optimistic.
''You wake up in the morning and your neck is a little stiff, but I feel a lot of people are like that,'' said Kiwanuka, whose four sacks are tied with Osi Umenyiora for the team lead. ''It's not something that I think will keep me out for a long time.''
