NFC West Update: LA Rams fire head coach Jeff Fisher

The LA Rams have (finally) fired head coach Jeff Fisher. They are about a full season too late in removing the coach with the most losses of all time.

When the LA Rams travel to Seattle for Thursday’s game, it’ll be without head coach Jeff Fisher. According to multiple reports, Fisher was fired this morning after the team’s terrible 42-14 loss to the Falcons.

Fisher has been terrible with the Rams. Him getting fired isn’t much of a surprise. Him getting fired on Monday when the team plays a road game on Thursday is a surprise.

In Seattle, the Seahawks are already in meetings. They’re breaking down yesterday’s film and installing their game plan for Thursday’s game. They may not practice today, but work is getting done. Meanwhile, the Rams are in chaos.

Keep in mind that Fisher just signed an extension 2 weeks ago. That move was supposed to calm rumors on his future and help make sure he didn’t lose the locker room. It obviously didn’t work, as it sure looked like the Rams quit yesterday.

For Seattle, this would would seem like a good thing. They’ll get a disorganized Rams team in town this week that should be unprepared. Unfortunately, that isn’t exactly how these things work sometimes.

Teams tend to rally around interim coaches in situations like this. History tells us that teams that have been vastly underperforming under a coach will suddenly play up to their ability after that coach is fired.

The Seahawks cannot afford to let that happen on Thursday. After losing 2 of their last 3, Seattle must take care of business this week and keep the pressure on Detroit in the race for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
