SAN FRANCISCO (AP) New San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula has completed his coaching staff, a nearly even balance of offensive and defensive coaches that includes the promotion of Geep Chryst to offensive coordinator.

Chryst spent four seasons as quarterbacks coach among his 23 years in the NFL.

Tony Sparano, who went 3-9 coaching the Oakland Raiders in an interim capacity last season before losing out on the new head coaching job to Jack Del Rio, will coach tight ends.

Eric Mangini is the new defensive coordinator, while former Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver comes aboard as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach. Mangini coached San Francisco's tight ends last season after working as senior offensive consultant in 2013.

D.J. Boldin, brother of Niners wide receiver Anquan, remains on staff as an offensive assistant. Running backs coach Tom Rathman also stays on staff from former coach Jim Harbaugh's tenure.
