Minnesota Vikings pairing new stadium with advanced technology
As the television product continues to dominate the NFL viewing experience, teams across the league are doing all they can to draw fans into their stadiums. The Minnesota Vikings, who are currently constructing a new stadium, want to be on the cutting edge of this movement.
Minnesota is relying on advanced technology to make this happen, according to Rochelle Olsen of the Star-Tribune, starting with an app that monitors traffic, parking options and open entrances at the stadium to streamline fan transportation. And once they arrive, Viking fans will be greeted by 2,000 flat-screen monitors.
"At the end of the day when people leave the stadium, you want them to go, 'That was an amazing time,'" business development director Brian Cheek told the Star-Tribune.
According to Olsen's report, the Vikings are installing the infrastructure to support 65,000 fans on their wireless devices at once. Other amenities will include live fantasy football updates from around the league and the ability to order food or drinks with a cell phone.
"We definitely don’t want you staring at your phone during the game," director of new stadium partnerships John Penhollow told the Star-Tribune, "but when you do look at your phone, we want to make sure you get what you need."
