Michael Vick believes he should be in the Hall of Fame

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:17 p.m. ET

After announcing his retirement this weekend, Mike Vick has made it clear what he thinks about his legacy.

Debates among Hall of Fame finalists often stir up this time of year when the new class is announced. Last night, we saw names like Jerry Jones, Kurt Warner, and LaDainian Tomlinson receive their invitations. Now, another former player thinks he should be wearing a gold jacket one day. When

When TMZ Sports asked Michael Vick if he belonged in the Hall of Fame, the former quarterback kept it brief: “I changed the game.” Whether Vick is a Hall of Famer to you or not, there is no denying he changed the QB position. Unfortunately for one of the best Madden players of all time, the numbers probably just aren’t there for Vick. He never was a prolific passer within the pocket, although he did improve under Andy Reid in Philadelphia. The time spent in jail for a dog fighting scandal also is of no help to Vick’s Hall of Fame case. What is so intriguing about Vick’s story is that he served punishment in the prime of his career. Who knows how we would view him today if the course of history had changed?

Regardless, if Vick does get a shot at the Hall, it is not going to be any time soon. There are sure, first-ballot players awaiting entry, so a borderline guy like him shouldn’t cross his fingers. If he is going to get in, it’s going to be for the reason he proclaimed. The strength of his argument lies in the eye test because what we saw him do on the football field was incredible. Hall of Famer or not, we will never forget Michael Vick.
