Melvin Gordon's touchdown drought isn't his most worrisome stat

They Chargers would love to see Melvin Gordon break a 13-week scoring drought.

They'd love it even more if their prized rookie running back could hold on to the ball, though.

Gordon has fumbled six times, leading Vikings star Adrian Peterson (5) for the most in professional football. But Gordon has only 155 carries; Peterson has 294 totes on the year.

So, after some math, it's easy to see why the Bolts don't trust Gordon when they reach the red zone. They've struggled to score touchdowns as is; Gordon fumbles once every 31.2 carries.

San Diego might've seen this coming. At Wisconsin, the all-star running back lost five balls in his final six games.

The good news? It can be corrected this offseason. After all, LaDainian Tomlinson fumbled eight times as a Chargers rookie in 2001 -- and he turned out alright.
