Marcel Reece Posts Letter, Thanks Raider Nation

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Nearly a month later, former Oakland Raiders fullback Marcel Reece released a statement about being released by the team.

On September 26th, the Oakland Raiders released longtime fullback Marcel Reece.

Even though Jamize Olawale had emerged (and had earned an extension), it was a surprise to see Reece let go. Especially after the team had kept Reece on the roster through the offseason and through the preseason, knowing he would be suspended the first three game of the year.

Then after his suspension was lifted, he was cut. Reece was yet to release a statement of any kind about being cut, until tonight:

To the Nation,

I would just like to take a quick minute to say THANK YOU. Oakland has been home for my family and I for a great 9 years and I would not trade that in for anything. Anyone that knows or has interacted with me knows that I have taken a great amount of pride and seriousness when it came to being a Raider and representing the organization, the community and the city of Oakland. It has been my pleasure to bring you all into my family as we have grown over the greater part of the decade. We have met some amazing people here in the Bay Area and truly believe that your love and support is second to none and for that we appreciate and will forever be grateful for all we have received. I will be moving on to try and help another organization. This has made me hungrier and better than I have ever been with the one objective I have always had on the field… to win a championship and feel the confetti fall. This is not a goodbye, but to the REAL RaiderNation it is more like see you later.

This was a well said, heartfelt statement from a fan favorite, a former team captain, and a player that truly loved being a Raider.

So thank you, Marcel.
