Manziel runs No. 2 time by a QB at NFL Combine

Johnny Manziel may have come up short in the height department, but he delivered in the 40-yard dash Sunday during testing at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

The Texas A&M quarterback, who triggered mild concern Friday among draft observers when he was measured at a fraction under 6-feet tall, ran his two heats in the dash in 4.63 and 4.56 seconds.

It puts him on firm footing in comparisons with other top quarterback draft prospects.

Connor Shaw of South Carolina was the fastest of all the QBs with marks of 4.58 amd 4.55 seconds.

Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech (4.60, 4.57), Stephen Morris of Miami (4.62, 4.57) and Derek Carr of Fresno State (4.68, 4.65) also impressed. Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois put up a pair of 4.72s.

Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater did not run, and Central Florida's Blake Bortles was timed in 4.81 and 4.88. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron was timed in 4.94 and 4.91.

While Manziel's showing in the sprint doesn't measure up to Robert Griffin III (4.41) two years ago, it's in the ballpark with the likes of current NFL stars Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick.
