Los Angeles Rams Cut WR Austin Hill

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Austin Hill was one of many early cuts by the Los Angeles Rams in order to be down to 53 players by Saturday’s deadline.

Despite all of the focus surrounding Jared Goff and Case Keenum at quarterback, the wide receiver position has been one of the most interesting battles to follow in camp. With the team looking to trim down the roster before Saturday’s deadline, it appears the Rams have already decided to part ways with Austin Hill.

Unfortunately for Hill, the wideout was one of a few early cuts by Los Angeles on Friday after a disappointing preseason.

As bad as it sounds, the news about Hill’s release wasn’t a surprise when looking at the lack of impact he made during the preseason. Hill was doing everything in his power to make the most of the opportunity as shown throughout Hard Knocks, but it didn’t help his case when he failed to earn a single target over the first two-preseason games.

After recording just two receptions for 16 yards over the final two games, it seemed clear that Austin wouldn’t be part of the squad after this weekend.

With all of the competition at wide receiver behind Tavon Austin and Kenny Britt, the Rams brought Hill on board at the beginning of training camp after bouncing around on numerous teams last year before ending up on the practice squad of the New England Patriots. He may not make an impact on the team this year, but at least Los Angeles fans will always remember Hill and his adorable daughter from Hard Knocks.
