Lions pick Appalachian State punter Sam Martin

The Detroit Lions used their second pick of the final day of the NFL draft to select Appalachian State's Sam Martin.

The Lions took the 6-1, 205-pound punter Saturday with the 165th overall pick.

Martin could be the starter this season. Veteran Nick Harris did not return to the team during the offseason.

Detroit had the fourth selection in the fifth round but traded it to Seattle and received the 32nd pick. It also got the 31st pick in the sixth round.

The Lions took South Carolina defensive end Devin Taylor late in the fourth round Saturday.
