Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart showed he’s still got some flash at 29 years old, flipping over a defender and keeping going.

For the Carolina Panthers in the 2016 NFL season, they’ve had many problems come to light throughout a disappointing campaign. There have been some positives too. But somewhere in between there lies the performance of running back Jonathan Stewart. The 29-year-old veteran has been good at times and forgettable at others. We’ll certainly remember what he did to the San Diego Chargers on one play in Week 14, though.

Stewart took a carry out to the right and bounced outside. After breaking off a nice chunk of yardage, it looked like the old-head in Carolina was about to be brought down as he had nowhere to go. Then he somehow became a football alchemist and made something out of nothing.

As he was hit low, Stewart proceeded to do a somersault over the defender, put his fist into the ground, and then vault back onto his feet to gain six more yards and move the chains further downfield. Check this out:

This is absolutely insane amounts of athleticism by Stewart. And the slow motion replay of it only adds to the effect. He’s less than an inch away from planting on his head, but gets his fist down to keep himself moving forward. That’s wild.

After a wild season in 2016 that hasn’t broke their way, the Panthers looked much more akin to the 2015 version of their team against the Chargers on Sunday. Plays like this and generally doing their jobs on both sides of the ball make you wonder what could’ve been had things broken right.
