Jim Tomsula praises Colin Kaepernick: 'He's a neat cat'
Even though there have been conflicting reports circulating as to the stability of quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s future with the San Francisco 49ers, the team appears to feel confident with him at this point.
The reports have come about due to the fact that many feel Kaepernick’s productivity declined in 2014, which aided in the 49ers decline to eight wins this past season. Despite how others may see Kaepernick, his new head coach Jim Tomsula had noting but praising comments to share regarding the young quarterback (via NFL.com).
When we go back to the criticisms on Colin — look we were 8-8 last year. Everyone takes a big bite out of that sandwich. Colin touches the ball every play. He’s the guy when we win, he gets a little bit more than he probably should, and when we don’t win, he gets more than he should.
Statistically and all that kind of stuff, people throw those out there — Colin had his best year, OK. Colin is working down in Arizona. He’s a great dude. He’s a real good dude. He’s a good teammate. He’s a neat cat. Colin’s going to do real well. Colin’s a great football player and even better person. We’re really excited about Colin.
Sounds convincing enough considering the fact that Kaepernick trade rumors where floating about not that long ago. However, when Tomsula references Kap’s stats from 2014, where he passed for a career-high 3,369 yards, we must note that his touchdowns were down and his interceptions were up from 2013.
Currently, Kaepernick is working with the legendary quarterback Kurt Warner and other coaches to prepare for the 2015 season. Additionally, he gains wide receiver Torrey Smith, who presents a great deep threat down the field.
The pressure will be on for both the 27-year-old quarterback and the new coach head coach as the team looks to compete for a playoff spot in 2015.
