Jets sign Brunell, Bryan and 3rd-rd pick Ellis

Mark Brunell will be back as Mark Sanchez's backup and mentor after the Jets re-signed the 40-year-old veteran to a one-year deal.

The Jets cut Brunell, due $1.25 million in base salary this year, on Friday but brought him back at a lesser salary.

New York also signed defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis, their third-round pick, and punter Chris Bryan on Sunday after making big news by signing former Giants and Steelers star wide receiver Plaxico Burress, recently released from prison.

Ellis was the last of the Jets' six draft picks to sign. The 6-foot-5, 345-pound former Hampton star is currently scheduled to go on trial Nov. 28 on a malicious wounding felony charge after an incident in college. The Jets knew of Ellis' legal situation when they drafted him.
