Jets complete interviews with Seahawks assistants Quinn, Cable
The New York Jets' search for a new coach and general manager is kicking into high gear.
Owner Woody Johnson, along with consultants Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly, completed a trip to Seattle on Friday after talking to Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and assistant head coach-offensive line coach Tom Cable about the Jets' head coaching vacancy.
The trio also spoke to Seahawks director of pro personnel Trent Kirchner on Thursday night for New York's general manager position, which opened when Johnson fired John Idzik along with coach Rex Ryan on Monday.
As for their coaching search, the Jets have additional meetings scheduled with former Buffalo coach Doug Marrone and San Diego offensive coordinator Frank Reich during the next few days. There is also interest from the Jets in Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Baltimore offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
In addition to Kirchner, New York has already interviewed Cleveland executive chief of staff Bill Kuharich and will also talk to Houston director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan and Philadelphia director of pro personnel Rick Mueller for the GM job. The New York Post reported Friday night that the Jets will meet with Mueller on Sunday and Maccagnan on Monday.
New York has also requested permission to interview Kansas City director of player personnel Chris Ballard and Miami director of college scouting Chris Grier, as first reported by ESPN.
The Jets already have interviewed two in-house candidates: Rod Graves and Anthony Lynn.
Graves, the team's senior director of football administration, is currently overseeing New York's football operations on an interim basis until a GM is hired. Lynn, who interviewed for the coaching position, was the running backs coach and served as assistant head coach under Ryan.
