Jaguars' top pick Dante Fowler has successful knee surgery

Published May. 28, 2015 6:44 p.m. ET

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars say Dante Fowler has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

The procedure was done Wednesday in Pensacola by Dr. James Andrews, the orthopedic surgeon who is a specialist in repairing damaged ligaments for professional athletes. Fowler, the Jaguars' top pick in this year's NFL draft, will miss the entire 2015 season. He is expected to be back in Jacksonville next week where he will begin his rehab with team doctors and medical staff.

Fowler was injured on the first day of the Jaguars rookie mini-camp on May 8. He was involved in an 11-on11 drill when his knee buckled in the non-contact session.

Fowler had not signed his contract when the injury occurred but has since signed a $23 million deal with the Jaguars.
