Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Series History
The Houston Texans have owned the Jacksonville Jaguars all-time.
The Houston Texans beating up on the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) has become a trend in recent years. When the Texans and Jaguars last met, in Week 17 of the 2015 season, Houston dominated. The Jags managed just 215 total yards as the Texans clinched the AFC South in a 30-6 blowout.
Today’s matchup won’t decide much about the 2016 playoffs- it’s entirely too early to have that conversation- but a win keeps the Texans (5-3) atop the AFC south. So does a loss technically, but returning from their bye to drop a division game isn’t how you’d want to start the second half of the season.
Since the Texans came into the NFL in 2002, they’re 17-11 against Jacksonville. They’ve swept the season series in 2014 and 2015.
Houston is 10-4 against the Jaguars at home, but they aren’t quite as successful on the road (they’re at Jacksonville today), having gone 7-7.
The Texans haven’t had much success on the road this year, to put it kindly. They haven’t had any, to be blunt. If they can beat Jacksonville, it’ll be their first win away from NRG Stadium this season.
Today isn’t necessarily must-win, but it’s a should-win for a legitimate playoff team. If the Texans are that, beating the Jags goes somewhere toward making that statement.
The schedule doesn’t get much easier going forward, with games against the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers, and divisional matchups with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans on deck.
