Holmes wants to return to Jets in 2011
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who was handed a first- and third- round contract tender by the Jets, was intent on a return to New Meadowlands as NFL bosses and the players' union resumed talks Tuesday to define the free-agency rules in the new collective bargaining agreement.
In a video posted to Facebook on Sunday, Holmes was seen standing in a room full of Steelers memorabilia but said his loyalty remained with the New York franchise.
"Sorry Jets fans that not enough Jets stuff is here, but trust me, as soon as I sign back with the Jets, everything will be taken care of," he said, adding that the Steeler gear belonged to his stepfather.
The tender handed to Holmes meant any team signing him as a restricted free agent would have to compensate the Jets with two draft picks. It is unlikely that a team would sacrifice those picks to sign Holmes away, although new free-agency rules could change that.
Holmes was traded to the Jets prior to the 2010 season and was arguably their best wide receiver.
