Green Bay Packers CB coach not worried about Casey Hayward on outside
The Green Bay Packers are a solid team with few weaknesses, so nit-picky tweaks like Casey Hayward's "transition" from slot cornerback to outside starter are under the microscope.
"I don't think it's a transition," Hayward told Ryan Wood of Press-Gazette Media. "It's corner. I've been playing outside since I've been playing corner, since college and all. It's nothing new. It's going to be a little transition mentally-wise, but I think it's going to be smooth sailing for me, and I'll be fine."
Not only is Hayward confident in his ability on the perimeter of the defense, Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. backed him up.
"I have no issue with Casey playing outside," Whitt said, per Press-Gazette Media. "I've never had an issue with Casey playing outside. I just had Tramon and Sam outside, so he played inside. But he's played outside before.
"I think this is a conversation that we really shouldn't be talking about, to be honest with you. Because I'm not worried about it. I have more to worry about than Casey Hayward outside. I have a lot more to worry about than that."
Hayward, a second-round pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2012 NFL draft, played all 16 games last season but started only one. He intercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles in 2014, returning one of each for a touchdown.
